April 2024 – Winter Warmers

Starting 01 April 2024, through to 30 April 2024, Sewing for Charity Australia’s main project will be sewing and knitting/ crocheting beanies, scarves, fingerless gloves and tracksuits. Additionally, we are collecting toiletries, socks and hygiene items. These will primarily be distributed to various organisations who support people experiencing housing insecurity.

What exactly are we creating? 

Beanies 

Scarves

Beanies 

There is no preferred pattern, please feel free to use one of your own favourites.

Sewn – fleece for warmth (particularly in larger sizes for men. Feedback from partner organisations is the men love the sewn beanies)

Knitted/ Crochet 

DARK COLOURS preferred

Sizing – majority Adult

Scarves 

There is no preferred pattern, please feel free to use one of your own favourites.

Sewn – fleece for warmth (particularly in larger sizes for men)

Knitted/ Crochet 

DARK COLOURS preferred (although all colours are accepted as some will go to aged care facilities)

Sizing – majority Adult Men, then Adult female, then teen, then child.

Adult – Minimum 6” wide and approximately 70-80” long 

Fingerless Gloves/ Handwarmers

Sewn – fleece for warmth (particularly in larger sizes for men). 

Knitted/ Crochet 

DARK COLOURS preferred (although all colours are accepted as some will go to aged care facilities)

Sizing – majority Adult. Fingers not too long – feedback from agencies is it makes it easier to eat etc if they don’t come too far up the fingers.

Track Suit Tops & Pants

No preferred pattern, just simple tracksuits.

All sizes from Adult to Small Child. If using patterned fleece please make sure the pattern on the fabric is suitable for the size you are making. Darker colours are preferred for Adults and teens/ tweens.

Blankets

Fleece, quilts, knitted or crochet. Single bed size preferred.

What other items are we collecting? 

  • New and very gently used/ pre loved adult to small children tracksuit pants and tops 
  • Kids socks (NEW) 
  • Adult warm socks (NEW) 
  • Toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, washers, hair brush/ comb, soap, shampoo & conditioner, hair ties, sanitary products)
  • Disposable ponchos 

 


A NOTE FROM THE SFCA TEAM

Please label your donations with type, size and which project they are for (eg – Lap Blanket, Knitted, May 2024)

This will greatly help our volunteers to sort and distribute them as quickly as possible.
